'It’s heartbreaking': Vermont overwhelmed by 'catastrophic' flooding


Heavy rainfall in Vermont and other states of the Northeast US led to extensive flooding, including in the state capital, Montpelier. The Winooski River exceeded its banks and inundated basements and lower floors of brick-fronted properties along picturesque streets. Though the river remained high above the dam, officials said the risks of its breaching had receded. G
