NASA unveils 'Mars' habitat for year-long experiments on Earth

NASA has unveiled “Mars Dune Alpha”, its new Mars simulation habitat in Texas, created for the Crew Health and Performance Exploration Analog (CHAPEA) experiments. Volunteers will live for up to a year to test life on Mars regarding mental and physical health, resource use and astronaut limitations. The four chosen volunteers will simulate lengthy trips outside, to collect data or build infrastructure, using equipment such as a treadmill, weather station, greenhouse and brick-making machine.
