Nebraska lawmakers are set to debate the "heartbeat bill" for a second time, which would ban abortion once cardiac activity is detected in an embryo, at around six weeks of pregnancy. An amendment proposed by a Republican co-signer to extend the ban to 12 weeks could signal that the bill may face pushback, even from those who want abortion restrictions. The bill makes exceptions for IVF procedures, ectopic pregnancies and allows for the removal of a fetus that has died in the womb.
