Seymour Stein, record exec who signed up Madonna, dead at 80


Seymour Stein, the founder of Sire Records, has died at age 80 in Los Angeles from cancer. Stein, who is in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, gained his reputation by launching the careers of Madonna, Talking Heads, and many others. He demonstrated his deep knowledge of music in his signings of new wave bands, including the Ramones, Talking Heads, and the Pretenders.
