US urges meat companies to ensure they don't use child labor


The Biden administration has contacted the 18 largest meat and poultry producers in the US to scrutinize the hiring practices at their companies and suppliers following the discovery of more than 100 children working illegally overnight for a company that cleans slaughterhouses. The Labor Department noted a 69% increase in child-labor violations since 2018, and officials have expressed concern about the exploitation of child migrants who may not have a parent in the United States.
